How to ensure a correct and usable evaluation from your teaching

The use of technology can initially be time-consuming, especially if the digital tool is new to both the teacher and the students. It is therefore interesting to evaluate whether the use of technology has been worth the time – and most importantly of all, whether the students have learned from it. At the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), we have developed a set of evaluation questions that deal with the use of online activities, as well as evaluating the contribution to the process of the students and the teaching staff. You can benefit from basing your evaluation on the questions below, if you wish to evaluate a course or an activity that has included online components.

EVALUATION QUESTIONS

  • The online activities helped me to understand the course activities during the lessons.
  • There was a good link between what I had to learn online, and what I had to learn during the lessons themselves.
  • Online communication with my fellow students and the teacher generally motivated me to do more in-depth work.
  • I felt that my contribution to the course's online activities was valued by my fellow students and the teacher.
  • The online feedback from the teacher helped me to understand the course topics better.
  • The online feedback from the other participants helped me to understand the modules better. I received feedback when I needed it.
  • I had generally given myself enough time to familiarise myself with what I had to learn online.
  • Do you have other comments that specifically relate to the course's online elements?
  • Allow the students to answer the questions on a five-point Likert scale.
