Airtable is a database tool with a set of "building blocks" that allow you to build your own tools. With Airtable you can establish your own databases where you organize, visualize and collect large amounts of information in a variety of ways.
First of all, you can use Airtable to organize a large amount of content. It resembles a start on a spreadsheet, but is actually a database. Each row is an independent unit (called record ), and each column (called fields ) is the content it consists of. Unlike a regular spreadsheet, a column can consist of anything from attachments, dates, checkboxes, forms, people, and links to other records in the database. You have full control over how many columns you create and what to include. Do you, for example, need to work with 3 different deadlines, you can simply create 3 date columns.
Not only do you decide what the content means, you also decide how you want the content presented. You do this through different views , which allow you to display the same content in different ways. The starting point is a spreedsheet (called grid ), but if you, for example, working with dates you can create one or more calendar views. This way, you can see the content both as a spreadsheet and as a calendar.
You can also have the content displayed as "gallery", "kanban" or "forms". Where the first two are ways to make more visual presentations of the content, with "forms" you can allow people from outside to add content without having to access the other content. Forms thus gives the opportunity to get inputs from students, and process it in the different ways. For example, you can use a form to collect questions and comments from the students and then process it in a grid view. You can even share your views with the students either via a link or via "embed", thus presenting their own inputs in the edited version. Eg. You can make a gallery view with questions and answers that can act as a FAQ.
The combination of being able to collect inputs, process it in different ways and share selected content opens up many creative applications. For example, you can Let yourself be inspired by our templates.
Airtable can be used for free, but paying a license gives you access to the so-called "Blocks". These are extra tools that allow you more to edit and visualize your content, for example. graphs, matrix, timelines, gantt charts, maps etc.
